Planning Principles for Urban Renewal

The University of Sydney hosted as part of the Festival of Urbanism - The Future of the Bays Precinct forum with Professor Stephen Cairns on 'open-city' design' on Wednesday 5 November. Following this successful event, an important discussion paper on Planning Principles for Urban Renewal and in particular for the Bays Precinct has been developed by the University and is available for downloaded from this webpage.

Professor Stephen Cairns outlined the planning and delivery of HafenCity in Germany, one of Europe’s largest urban rebuilding projects, which saw old port warehouses replaced with residential areas, offices and shops, and how it could apply to the Bays Precinct. Professor Cairns was followed by a panel discussion with Westpac head of group sustainability and community, Siobhan Toohill; University of Sydney director of urbanism associate professor Rod Simpson; and community representatives professor Jane Marceau and Lucy Cole-Edelstein from community engagement firm Straight Talk.
