Green Square is a fast-growing urban redevelopment area located only 4km south of Sydney's CBD.

The City of Sydney is working to ensure development and growth in the Green Square area is matched with exciting new community facilities, open space and parks, and transport connections.

We invite you to be part of our program of events and information to keep up to date with the latest news and development progress. We're also keen to hear your feedback on the new facilities and open space through this site and our face to face events.

Construction

Construction of the new Green Square Town Centre is underway, with Mirvac Green Square and Crown Group commencing work on new residential apartment buildings, and the City of Sydney building new streets and infrastructure and the new Green Square Library and Plaza. Bridgehill have commenced construction of residential apartments in the south of the town centre. If you live on Hansard Street, Zetland or nearby streets you may like to be part of the Construction Liaison Group for this project.     These works are part of our program to deliver a network of new and upgraded streets that will connect people to and from the new Green Square town centre and to wider Sydney.

    The City of Sydney invites feedback on proposed changes to planning controls for three sites in the Green Square town centre, Zetland.

    The proposal will change the floor space ratio map to reflect the subdivision of sites 355 Botany Road, 377–497 Botany Road and 956–960 Bourke Street, Zetland.

    The proposal also transfers commercial floor space from town centre sites 8A and 8B to sites 7 and 17, allowing for more commercial, entertainment or childcare activities in the plaza.

    These changes require a planning proposal to amend the Sydney Local Environmental Plan (Green Square Town Centre) 2013.

    Building a new health centre with a range of services will take a few years. To ensure the community has access to essential health services during this period, we also want to hear about the services you need now.

    All Green Square residents are invited to complete a short, anonymous online survey.

    Please join us at the Green Square Community and Cultural Precinct, at 3 Joynton Avenue, Zetland for a site tour, cupcakes and refreshments on Sunday 17 July from 11am.

    Please join us at the Green Square Community and Cultural Precinct, at 3 Joynton Avenue, Zetland for a site tour, cupcakes and refreshments on Sunday 17 July from 11am.

    The community day is an opportunity for you to hear about our work to create this new centre on the former Royal South Sydney Hospital site. Our staff will talk about the projects and you will be able to tour the construction works. Please wear closed toe shoes to ensure your safety.

    These projects include:
    •The Joynton Avenue Creative Centre, (formerly the Esme Cahill building), with artists’ studios, a gallery space, workshops, classrooms and spaces for community hire;
    •The Waranara Early Education Centre, (formerly the Outpatients Building);
    •The Banga Community Shed (formerly the Pathology building) for craft and woodwork, including an extension with public amenities; and
    •Matron Ruby Grant Park, a new open space for the community to enjoy.

    The new facilities are expected to open in mid-2017.

    The City is about to start work on Paul Street and Geddes Avenue in the Green Square Town Centre. As part of this project, the eastern side of Botany Road will be upgraded.

    Construction will take place from 7.30am–5.30pm on Monday to Friday and 7.30am–3.30pm on Saturdays. No work is permitted on Sundays and public holidays.
