Changes to the Heritage Floor Space Scheme

The heritage floor space scheme helps conserve and maintain heritage buildings in central Sydney. The changes proposed will make it easier for heritage building owners to respond to changing tenant requirements.

The changes include amendments to Sydney Local Environmental Plan 2012, Sydney Development Control Plan 2012 and the Alternative Heritage Floor Space Allocation Scheme.

At present, the purchase of heritage floor space is compulsory for all alterations and additions to existing buildings, regardless of how much new floor space is created. The proposed change to the Sydney Local Environmental Plan 2012 will introduce a threshold under which no purchase of heritage floor space would be required.

The proposed minor changes to the Sydney Development Control Plan 2012 and the Alternative Heritage Floor Space Allocation Scheme will improve the efficiency of the scheme.

We will consider all submissions and report the results to Council and the Central Sydney Planning Committee. If Council approves the proposal, it can amend the Sydney Local Environmental Plan 2012 on behalf of the Greater Sydney Commission.

We welcome your comments on these proposed changes. Consultation will be open until 13 June. Please email your comments.
