Surry Hills Shopping Village: proposed changes to planning controls

We welcome your feedback on proposed changes to planning controls for Surry Hills Shopping Village at 2–38 Baptist Street and 397–399 Cleveland Street, Redfern.

The proposal will provide for an increase in maximum building heights of up to:

  • 18m in Marriott Street
  • 22m in Cleveland Street
  • 25m in Baptist Street.

These changes will encourage a mixed use development of specialty retail shops, a supermarket, commercial premises and residential apartments. The proposal also includes new public open space in the south-west corner of the village, a new laneway towards the south and a wider footpath along Marriott Street.

These changes require a planning proposal to amend the Sydney Local Environmental Plan 2012, a draft amendment to the Sydney Development Control Plan 2012 and a planning agreement.

We will consider all feedback on the proposal and report the results to Council and the Central Sydney Planning Committee. If Council approves the proposal it will amend the Sydney Local Environmental Plan on behalf of the Greater Sydney Commission.
