Future use of Waterloo Town Hall

We’re opening a new library in Green Square for the growing number of people living in the area.

The new facility will feature a children’s area and garden, community and meeting rooms, a technology suite, a music room, collection of up to 40,000 items and a café. A customer service centre (CSC) will be located with the new library.

The new library is located less than 1 kilometre from the current Waterloo library.

Originally Waterloo Library was set to relocate to the larger, purpose-built Green Square Library. However we are considering feedback from the community about this proposal.

The Lord Mayor and Council have asked the CEO to investigate whether budget is available to maintain a library service within Waterloo Town Hall.

Waterloo Town Hall, 770 Elizabeth Street, Waterloo

This historic town hall has served the community in many ways since it was built in 1881. It has been a social hall where dances were held. An air raid shelter was built to the rear of the building during World War II. Since 1972, it has been a library.
